What does it mean to become part of a franchise?
Being part of a franchise means that you have the right to use a system, brand and other resources of the franchisor. Because of this franchises often have a higher success rate than non franchised businesses. In exchange for these resources, you have to pay a fee and agree to some restrictions imposed by the franchisor.
When I think of a franchise I picture Massage Envy, McDonald's, or some other business where everything is the same. How is Massage Elite different?
Most franchises impose significant controls over the franchisee. They have strict requirements in every area from hours you must open, to paint colors, etc.. Massage Elite is not a typical franchise and does not impose these restrictions. You have the benefits of using the Massage Elite system and brand, but we do not tell you how to run your business. We do give you training and a comprehensive operations manual, and other resources, with a wealth of information on opening and running your business; but we do not require you to follow rigid guidelines.
What restrictions on my business are you imposing?
The only restrictions we impose are things that you are likely already doing. We require that every Massage Elite location is clean, professional looking, etc. We do not allow you to sell certain things (like sexual services), and we do require that you provide a handful of services and use our management software. Specifically, we require that
- You offer relaxation, therapeutic, and medical level massage therapy
- You or your therapists are experienced and qualified for the above
- You use our management software so that clients can book online appointments with you and so you can accept our members and gift cards.
- You sell and accept our memberships and gift cards.
These are not so much restrictions as they are benefits or standards of Massage Elite.
What services do Massage Elites provide?
You must provide the above massages. You can provide any other services you wish including additional massages, facials, products, body treatments, hair and nail services, etc. with our approval. We will generally approve anything that does not detract from our image. For example we will not allow you to sell pornography, tobacco products, etc. We encourage you to offer more than the minimal and we will be happy to assist you in developing a treatment menu.
What will my business be called?
You can call your business whatever you wish. No Massage Elite locations are actually named Massage Elite. Instead we give you the right to use our logo and name with yours.
Do you own any of my business?
No. The business is 100% owned by you.
What does it cost to be part of Massage Elite?
The total cost to open or convert to a Massage Elite varies significantly depending on the type of Massage Elite franchise you open. If you are opening a full service massage facility with multiple rooms, therapists, etc. your costs can easily exceed $150,000. If you are a single therapist just starting out your costs will only be $1,000 - $5,000 depending on what type of table, and other equipment you need to purchase. If you have a full service facility and you want to convert to a Massage Elite Franchise your costs will be in the range of $5,000 - $10,000.
There are also monthly fees associated with the system. For example, you will have to contribute to the advertising fund (you should be spending money on advertising anyway so this should not be an additional expense to you), pay a fee for the spa management software, and pay a franchise royalty fee. The fees associated with Massage Elite are much less than a typical franchise. They should be considered an investment that will provide you with a greater return than would be possible if you were not part of the franchise system.
How much money can I expect to make as part of Massage Elite?
Because every Massage Elite is totally different it is not possible to answer this question. We will provide you with an estimate of your costs but only you can estimate your revenue and profit. We will provide you with support, a brand, and a system that we believe will make it much more likely for you to be successful. However, your success depends largely on your drive and commitment and how closely you follow our recommendations.
How do I know if I qualify to join the Massage Elite team?
You will probably qualify if you or your business can provide medical level massage therapy. That means that you are able to treat people with injuries, back pain, etc. You or your therapists will need to have the training and experience necessary to perform this service. You must also meet certain criteria in terms of your background (we will run a full background check), finances (we want you to succeed so you must have enough money to execute your plan), etc.
Is Massage Elite fully up and running?
No. Massage Elite is stil in development. We hope to begin adding franchisees in 2012.
